Setting off on their holidays, the Lewis family are looking forward to the break. They drive into a dark storm and, as the rain lashes against the windscreen, they barely see the shadowy figure by the side of the road and almost knock him down. Martin reverses the car and offers him a lift. Without speaking the sinister figure attacks Martin, lunging for his throat and the car goes wildly out-of-control.
