Synopsis

Ruthlessly blackmailing a young couple to assist with his horrific experiments the Baron, desperate for vital medical information, abducts Dr Brandt, a former colleague, from an insane asylum. On route the doctor dies and the Baron and his reluctant assistant transplant his brain into the body of a dead professor. The creature is tormented by a trapped soul in an alien shell and, after a visit to his wife who violently rejects his monstrous form, the creature wrecks his revenge on the perpetrator of his misery... Baron Frankenstein.

My absolute favorite Cushing Frankestein film. To play the characters completely different from his other portrayals of the same character is a testament to his skill. I love the darker, more psychotic Frankenstein. This rounds out my top 3 Hammer films!

Great movie Peter Cushing gives his best performance as the Baron. The rape scene was misjudged I hear all involved were against it. The Baron was misguided, deluded and maybe mad but he was not a rapist. Still an outstanding addition to the series.

My favourite Frankenstein film - it is much more intelligent than all of the others in the series. Peter Cushing is quite chilling but that rape scene should never have been allowed. Great film nonetheless.

So, here we have a film in which the main character is a murderous, blackmailing borderline madman as the main character and we find ourselves routing for him! All praise indeed to Peter Cushing- the gentle man who scared millions. the best scene, though, belongs to Freddie Jones attempting to communicate with his wife in another man's body. Such an outrageous concept made incredibly moving by his portrayal. And its good to see Veronica Calson given a nice, meaty part which she handles with aplomb.

this is truly one of the best hammer horrors from the later period at elstree studios. i rate "frankenstein must be destroyed" as being the second best of the hammer frankensteins films after "the curse of frankenstein" as this latest instalment has plenty in its favour: a magnificent performance from peter cushing, some brilliant direction from terence fisher and a damn good script. the music is pretty good also. i have never seen peter cushing play the baron in such an evil, manipulative and calculating manner. freddie jones as the creature, is effective and brings a measure of depth to his role. veronica carlson is very convincing as the doomed anna, although i found simon ward to be rather boring and one-dimensional as the blackmailed karl. thorley waters is rather wasted in his role as the aggressive and fussy police officer but he still does well in the limited screentime he has. the one highlight for me in this film, is when those four pompous lodgers at the boarding house are effortlessly put in their place thanks to a few well-chosen words from peter cushing. i also love the scene where the baron and karl abduct dr. brandt from the asylum, it is wonderfully staged and quite gripping.

My favourite of the Frankensteins and one of the very best Hammer films. The script is sharp and intellegent and the characters sympathetic. Veronica Carlson proves herself a brilliant actrress and Peter Cushing is superb and more cold and calculating than usual as the Baron....The set design, costumes and score are all top notch. What I would give to see this one and Taste The Blood Of Dracula as a double bill at the flicks!
