Synopsis

One by one the archaeologists who discover the 4,000-year-old tomb of Princess Ananka are brutally murdered. Kharis (Lee), high priest in Egypt 40 centuries ago, has been brought to life by the power of the ancient gods and his sole purpose is to destroy those responsible for the desecration of the sacred tomb. But Isobel Banning (Furneaux), wife of one of the explorers (Cushing), resembles the beautiful princess, forcing the speechless and tormented monster to defy commands and abduct Isobel to an unknown fate...

What amazes me is why hasn't this movie had a UK release???? Please, blue ray effect just like the great Curse of Frankenstein and Dracula prince of darkness

Easily the best out of The Mummy movies and maybe the best Hammer film. Not only is the Hammer "style" out in full force during this movie but but the acting, sets and, most importantly, the pace are 2nd to none. Christopher Lee coming out of the muddy waters is downright iconic. You can really see where some of todays directors get their “unstoppable foe” from as this mummy gets shot, stabbed and shot again… and still keeps coming. I’m hoping that Hammer brings this to US Blu Ray while Lee can still do any kind of extras he can. There are very few horror icons left and it would be a shame if we couldn’t get his word on things.

Although I prefer the Frankenstein and the Dracula films more, this was the very first Hammer Horror i watched and has been in my mind ever since, a true classic

i don't consider the mummy films to be as good as the frankenstein or dracula ones. this inital entry proves this. there is too much padding in "the mummy," it takes too long to get going and the flashback sequence is far too long. the scene where felix alymer is murdered in his padded cell is well done and quite creepy. christopher lee's grand entrance when he rises from the swamp is also highly effective but the plot as a whole is a disappointment. it is peter cushing's performance that saves this one, he is brilliant as the courgeous john banning. george pastell is a letdown, he simply has none of the mysterious or sinister quality of george zucco. i do enjoy the music, very much in keeping with the film's subject matter.

This movie represents the best telling of the story of "The Mummy." The usual pairing of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing does not disappoint. The special effects are ahead of their time. Don't fall in for all ther new Mummy movies and all their CGI. Watch a true classis horoor movie...
