Synopsis

Baron Victor Frankenstein was the archetypal aristocrat, well-read, cultured and arrogant. Beyond the sophisticated veneer existed a cruel, utterly unscrupulous man, obsessed with ambition. Determined to realise his greatest dream to create life, he had assembled a creature from organs gathered from various unwilling donors. The creature is successful brought to life but the instability of the brain, damaged during surgery, causes uncontrollable violent spasms that result in indiscriminate murder... and it is the Baron to whom the blame is laid with fatal consequences.

Likewise, love The Curse Of Frankenstein, but was more than a little peeved at the the awful Bluray transfer. I have a dvd boxset with the big three in (Curse oF.../Dracula/Mummy) & these 'dvd' films look better than this poor excuse of a bluray. Lets hope Lionsgate sort their act out & give us a fantastic looking Dracula? I will not be spending any hard earn cash till I start seeing Positive reviews!

Can't wait for the new dvd edition. Even though i've seen the film countless times, the extras on the new edition have managed to persuade me to part with my money when it is released. Hopefully, there will be many more of these special editions in the coming months, as i'm sure Hammer has a wealth of material in their vaults which fans would be happy to see.

I saw THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN in its original 1957 U.S. release, along with X THE UNKOWN. The tag line on the U.S. posters & ads was, "The Curse of Frankenstein will haunt you forever!" In my case, it has proved to be literally true. Yes, it was strong stuff in 1957! Yet, I count myself fortunate that I saw so many of the early Hammer Films in their original theatrical release. Since I saw CURSE at such an impressionable age, CoF and Hammer became an indelible part of me. Looking at this page, I'm led to believe that I am not alone. Like most of us, I hope that the new Hammer organization will build on the success of THE WOMAN IN BLACK. It looks as if they will respect the past, while the create something new, reinventing Hammer Films for a new century.

Do not mean to take this off track but I have a few printing plates with Hammer movies. These were used back in the 60s to print the small movie programs for theatres. I think these are very rare and collectable. One of them is this movie. I was looking for a channel to sell these and maybe an estimate on how much they are worth. Can anyone give me any pointers?

Love Peter Cushing as the Baron. He played the part so well. Seen this film many times and never tire of it. Excellent

I love the curse of frankenstein peter cushing and christopher lee where the best the only thing that got on my nerve was that paul crying like a two year old always saying Im not going to help you Im going to tell and he would go away thank god. Then the baron would go do his evil work. Then here comes cry baby paul back in the movie but still the movie is a good one I still would watch it a million times over even if cry baby paul still wants to be a big baby and go tell on the baron for his good deeds.

The film that put Hammer on the map. A cracking script by Jimmy Sangster & great perfomances by Cushing & Lee. Christopher Lee manages to convey the monster in a somewhat sympathetic light. One of the first Hammers I ever saw as a young child & it instilled a love of the Hammer movies that still goes on today.

Technically, one of the best Hammer Films I have seen to date. it features an array of spectacular special effects as well as a great, spine chilling soundtrack. As well as this, Peter Cushing delivers a masterful performance as Baron Victor Frankenstein, as Christopher Lee portraying the monster menacingly yet in a strange way sympathetically. If i was asked to rate it, i would give it an 8 / 10.

i have the (silent 8MM) version of this that i still watch on the film projector!! i fell in love with the film when i was 5 years old. and when i was 10 years old, my dad got the 16MM print for us to watch! to this day since 1978 AFTER SEEING THE ENTIRE 16MM VERSION, i consider the film THE BEST DAMN VERSION OF ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be really great if a Region 2 DVD version of this great film could be released! You can currently get all of the other Frankenstein films in Region 2 format, but not the original and best.

All due respect to James Whale, but this is the best Frankenstein film ever made. As has already been stated, it is totally solid in every way. .

this hammer film is my all-time favourite: the plot, narrative, script and pace are all first rate. however, "the curse of frankenstein" would not be the classic it is without peter cushing and christopher lee. their performances are the ones to see, especially peter cushing as the evil baron frankenstein, the character that cushing made his own for all time.

The first Hammer film I ever saw (rightly so!). It's understandable how it shocked the world in 1957. The violence must have been pretty brutal for the time (the murder of the professor and shooting of Lee in particular) and the make up is grimly effective too. Cushing is excellent (as always) and Valerie Gaunt is superb as house maid Justine whose drawn out discovery of the monster remains my favourite sequence.

As with HORROR OF DRACULA, this is the absolute best of the lot; dunno how many times I've seen it, either.
