Principal photography has now been completed on Hammer's first horror feature film since To The Devil A Daughter in 1976. Directed by David Keating, The Wake Wood was shot by Chris Marris over six weeks in Ireland.
Filming took place in and around the village of Pettigoe, on the border of Co. Fermanagh and Co. Donegal for five weeks before moving to Dublin for the final week. Hammer previously filmed Sword of Sherwood Forest (1960) and The Viking Queen (1966) in Ireland.
Filming wrapped aptly enough for a Hammer horror on October 31st - Halloween.
The Wake Wood, starring Aidan Gillen, Eva Birthistle and Timothy Spall, is expected to be released in 2009, with UK distribution by Vertigo Films.
