Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have confirmed their plans to release four rarely seen Hammer films this summer. The films were originally produced in the 1960s by Hammer for Columbia, which is now owned by Sony.
This is the first time these films have been released on dvd, and the first time many have been available on the home video market at all.
The four films are being released over two disc as part of the "Icons of Adventure" box set, and include Terror of the Tongs, The Pirates of Blood River, Devil-Ship Pirates and The Stranglers of Bombay. Sony are currently listing the films with original aspect ratios of 2.35:1 and 1.66:1. There is no confirmation of extras on the dvds as yet, but it is understood commentaries have been recorded for some of the titles.
Icons of Adventure is due to be released on June 10th, 2008 in the USA with a suggested retail price of $24.96.
