Double the horror on dvd...

The Vampire Lovers / Lust for A Vampire regio

Optimum Releasing in the UK are unleashing two of Hammer's most notorious horror films of the 1970s on 22nd September as a double dvd pack.

The Vampire Lovers was first released in 1970 and ushered in a new period of Hammer horror, taking advantage of the more permissive film regulations and including a lesbian sub-plot and full frontal nudity. Based on the novella Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu, and helmed by veteran director Roy Ward Baker (Quatermass and the Pit, Moon Zero Two

) it stars Ingrid Pitt, Madeline Smith, Kate O'Mara, Jon Finch, George Cole and Peter Cushing.

The film has been unavailable in the UK for several years.

The dvd set couples

The Vampire Lovers with the sequel Lust for a Vampire

(1971), directed by Jimmy Sangster, which built upon the exploitational aspects of the first picture.

The double dvd set includes original theatrical trailers, and is presented in a 16x9 anamorphic widescreen transfer. Certifiate: 18.
