Margaret Robinson's work hangs in many notable collections, and this is the first major showing of her work for some years, and consists largely of work produced in the last 10 years.
A former teacher, Margaret studied at Leeds College of Art and the Slade College of Art. During the 1950's she began a lengthy association with Hammer films as she explains,
"While at Theatre Zoo I was asked to make the Mask for the ‘Hound of the Baskervilles’ at Hammer Studios, where I met the Production Designer, Bernard Robinson who later became my husband.
"I worked free lance at this time making masks for Convent Garden and Saddlers Wells. Every now and then I returned to work at Bray Studios. By this time I was a member of NATKE – the union of what I called the dirty overall brigade. ACTT were the ones who kept clean – I was in the modelwork branch.
"I worked on ‘The Mummy’, ‘Visa to Saigon’, ‘Brides of Dracula’ (17’ high dragon like supports for the balcony and staircase) ‘Stranglers of Bombay’, (head of Kali). I modelled the head of Felix Aylmer for ‘Don’t take sweets from a Stranger. I also made masks for Beriosova in the ITV production of John Crankos ‘Lady and The Fool’ and painted costumes for the Visconti production of Don Carlos. The last thing I made was a clay head of Judy Geeson for ‘Fear in the Night’ (Art Directors Scott Magregor and Don Picton).
"After Bernard died I taught life drawing for Surrey County Council’s further education classes and taught art at the Abraham Cowley Psychiatric unit helping at the ‘centre for living’ putting on puppet shows with the older members of the group. I now confine my activities to drawing and painting with my friends"
