This has always been my favorite Hammer film. It's perfect and the legendary Hammer atmosphere is thick as pea soup. Cushing was ne ver more effective as Van Helsing, showing himself once again to be the actual star of all the Hammer Dracula/vampire films. David Peel is a nice change of pace. For some reason his blond hair and sensual good looks make his vampire seem that much more evil. The scene where Van Helsing puts the brand to his bite wounds still makes me flinch and the final scene with the windmill couldn't be more fitting or more powerful. The apotheosis of Hammer film-making.

I saw this at a drive-in as a kid when it came out and it has stuck with me all these years. The ending Is fantastic.
